Vittoria has long held a community-wide yard sale with many families taking part. Joanna Tapp realized that the work to set up a yard sale was at the mercy of the weather. Last year, she decided to hold the yard sale indoors at the Vittoria Community Centre. It was a success and she continued it again this year.
Vendors pay a $40 fee to cover overhead costs with any extra money donated to a local charity. A box at the door also allows shoppers to donate to the local food bank. “Hungry people are being fed. It helps the community,” said Tapp.
This year’s Vittoria Treasure Hunt was held on April 19. Vendors displayed their clothing, antiques, decor, and miscellaneous treasures on tables for treasure hunters to look through.
Hundreds of shoppers came through the hall with a rush when the doors opened.
Items that vendors didn’t sell could be donated to Vittoria’s Christ Church for a new roof fundraising yard sale at a future date.
Tapp holds events throughout the year, including a spring sale, fall sale and partners with Tracy Haskett at The Cider Keg for Art on the Farm, which showcases local artisans’ creations every Saturday all summer long.
