VETERAN NEWS
Canada celebrated the 60th anniversary of the Canadian flag on February 15. Our national flag, with its iconic red and white stripes and maple leaf, is a symbol that unites Canadians and reflects our common values. Many in the community celebrated National Flag Day and displayed our flag proudly.
The deadline for Disability Pensions Class Action Settlement is March 19 and it is important for those eligible to act now. Veterans Affairs Canada settled a class action lawsuit relating to the miscalculation of disability pension benefits payable between 2003 and 2023 to disabled Canadian Armed Forces and RCMP veterans and their survivors. Living veterans will receive their settlement payments automatically and no action is required. However, estates of deceased veterans, family members or survivors of veterans may be eligible to claim payments of about $2,500 with some exceeding $10,000 or more.
The entire claims process is being administered by KPMG, who have created a website where claims can be made and a toll-free call centre to answer questions (1-833-839-0648). It is important to know that the deadline to make a claim is on March 19.
Honouring Veterans as we begin a new year
As we continue through this year, we want to take a moment to reflect on the profound impact your support has made. Through your dedication, we’ve been able to assist Veterans and their families in life-changing ways.
“Your hard work and perseverance on my behalf made it possible for me to receive a medical pension for on-going health issues. The pension allows my wife and I to remain living in our own home and we are very grateful for that.”
These words, and others like them, remind us why our mission at the Legion matters.
Together, we’ve brought relief, dignity, and peace of mind to those who served.
Looking ahead in 2025, we’re honoured to continue this vital work. Whether it’s helping Veterans secure the benefits they’ve earned, supporting their families, honouring the fallen, or strengthening our communities, your commitment keeps the spirit of Remembrance alive. Here’s to a year filled with purpose, compassion, and collective success.
At the going down of the sun,
And in the morning,
We shall remember them.
