The Marsh Hare dinner was a great success and a good, sold-out crowd was on hand to down those delicious muskrats and pickerel to our theme of “85 years of rats.” Chairman for this event was that hard-working Lion and past president Dave Carroll who was mighty pleased with the turnout and celebrating that goes on at this gathering. He thanks all the Lions for their tireless work and attendance in making this dinner such a success. Lion Dave has been chairing for 15 years or more and always does a great job on this big event. It is the club’s most successful fundraiser and for that we thank our great community in Norfolk for their attendance and input. The funds raised go a long way towards meeting our annual budget of $25,000, which helps so many needy projects and people in our community. Lions, give yourself a pat on the back!
It was also reported by Lion Dave that we have 41 Canadian flags flying in Port Rowan on various streets and will put up 10 new ones throughout our town.
Lion Bryan Granger will be the club’s youth exchange person again this year.
The Lions will be once again hosting their local gigantic yard sale at the Port Rowan Community Centre on June 6. Past president Lion Richard Denn is in charge; please call him at 519-428-1687 if you have any worthy items you would like to donate. No furniture, thank you.
Lion Tony, who oversaw the “Soles for Souls” project, delivered 95 pairs of shoes to the St. Davids Lions Club and brought back a couple barrels for collecting more.
The Car Show Committee is working diligently to get things ready for our annual event. Everything is on track. Half the proceeds from this event will be given to the Valley Heights Breakfast Program. Please come out and support this event, which will be held on Sunday, June 22.
Lions Club donations this month were $300 to the Houghton Summer Celebration, and $1,800 for bursaries given to students at Valley Heights Secondary School; $250 to the Ontario Blind Golf Association; $150 to Crime Stoppers; $250 to the Langton Lakers; $100 to the Grimsby Lions Club on their 100th anniversary; and $100 to the Fonthill Lions Club’s 80th.
Lion Greg reported that the sale of “chocolate Easter bunnies” was going along well with only a few dark chocolate ones remaining.
