Volleyball March Madness is here for the Port Rowan volleyball ladies. The team expects to set new records and new P.B.s—personal bests—with Assistant Capt. Prout’ s expertise. The games continue, while Billo and Hignett travel on a recruiting assignment and will report weekly.
Last outing report: The first set stayed close all the way through with neither side allowing the other to have any lasting runs. Prout’s court went up 11 to 8 on a 3–0 service run by Prout that featured an ace; Johrendt’s court answered back with a 6–0 streak (Robertson’s service) of their own that gave them the lead at 14–11. Johrendt controlled the pace from there, but Prout’s side was never far behind and tied it at 18–all with a kill from Bouck. The score was tied up three more times before Johrendt’s court hit set point and sealed the deal with Matschke’s ace.
The second set started tight with four early ties. Prout’s court began to pull away with a five-point run off Samson’s service that pushed their lead to 11–9. Johrendt’s side picked up four points with the go-ahead point coming from Montrose’s serve. Montrose serves again and it is sent back by Smith’s set for Truax… but with Hudson and Fick (double Ds) block, Truax’s spike is stopped. Point Johrendt. Montrose’s service is lost when Scherer picks the ball from the back row and sets to Meyers, and Meyers kills it. Service from Samson gains Prout’s court the lead. Score was back and forth with Prout’s court winning the set on a double block by Dedrick and Scherer.
The third set stayed even until the midway point when Meyers’ serve started the four point lead… score 12–8. Johrendt’s court gained back two points with Scherer’s serves, her third serve was sent to Bouck, Bouck sent to Dedrick, sets for Cayer, spike. Haze Kong-blocked for Johrendt’s court to bring the service back to Scherer. There was no stopping Johrendt’s court as the ladies were strong and error free.
Stats for the game: Meyers was team high with nine kills, Dedrick eight kills on 17 swings, Hudson 24 assists, Fick 20 assists. Scherer (returning veteran, first outing) six kills, four aces and 12 assists… welcome back Scherer.
Team will meet next week—same place and time. Stay warm and well, Port Rowan belongers!
