Ladies volleyball action continues

Spring is in the air… at the Port Rowan gymnasium and spring is in the vertical leap of all of the Port Rowan Ladies Volleyball team… assistant captain Prout is pleased.

Personal bests (PBs) were set and old stats shattered at the last outing. Hudson totalled a match-high 20 kills for Johrendt’s court as they faced off against Prout’s team. Hudson set the bar with her 11th double-double of the season, match-high kills, and 12 digs. Fick contributed 12 kills with a match-high seven solo blocks. Johrendt shared a team best 29 assists. Meyers tallied a team best 15 digs for Prout.

First set: both teams battled through a total match—high 20 tie scores. The first set also saw seven lead changes that kept the players, coaches, ref, and linesmen on edge. Prout grabbed a late 28–27 edge and Johrendt answered with three straight points to take the first set 30–28.

Second set: Prout built a 16–11 advantage with Marcyniuk’s kills. Johrendt’s court rallied back with Robertson’s service to tie 16–16. Prout’s court stretched another lead using Bouck and Truax to work the net, blocking everything the Double Ds (Hudson and Fick) were spiking at them. Cayer was able to provide perfect sets for Haze and Meyers to keep Prout adding points. Samson’s service gained two aces for Prout with the set point following. Dedrick kong-blocked and took the serve away. Montrose’s serve for Johrendt was deep. Smith received and bumped to Samson. Set for Scherer… kill. Prout takes the set 25–19.

Third set: Johrendt’s court answered back sprinting out to a 12–5 lead. Matschke’s serves were deep into Prout territory. Samson received, sending to her centre, Bouck. Bouck alternated setting for Truax and Smith, spikes were made. The Dedrick, Double Ds combo worked to block and recover control of the ball. Setting for Robertson to spike. Pulling Johrendt to 20 points. Prout roared back to tie 20–all. Service ace from Prout put them ahead but a kill from Dedrick and a four-serve run from Robertson put Johrendt’s team in the lead 24–21. Flawless net work and error-free play gave Johrendt the set point and match 25–21.

Team stats: kills 57; attempts 148; assists 52; aces 3; blocks 11.

Game leaders: Hudson 20 kills, 2 blocks; Johrendt 12 kills, 7 blocks; Prout 7 kills, 2 blocks; Bouck 7 kills; Haze 12 digs; Meyers 15 digs.
