Farms of Norfolk football tournament is August 10

By Bob Wood

The Farms of Norfolk Football Association’s (FNFA) annual tournament will be held Sunday, August 10, at 660 West Street, Simcoe.

The soccer tournament began in 2018 as a social opportunity for Norfolk’s many migrant workers.

Carrie Sinkowski, community developer with the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Community Legal Clinic, has co-ordinated the event since its inception to foster community engagement and connection.

“After five fun years of planning the tournament, I am turning over the co-ordinating role to Maureen from Grand River Community Health Centre (GRCHC),” Carrie told the Good News. The Health Centre provides community-based primary health care. It offers services to support the emotional, physical and social needs of individuals and communities.

Maureen, an outreach worker who works directly with international agricultural workers, has incorporated the tournament into GRCHC programs.

Carrie will continue being involved to secure funding. “I will also be engaging community partners to showcase their services at the tournament,” she said.
