Norfolk County recently announced that an interim solution has been developed for the Long Point Causeway Bridge. Construction work is underway at the only road to Long Point.
An engineer’s report this spring found deterioration of the bridge structure. That lead to immediate weight and speed restrictions over the bridge.
A rig mat solution is being installed. This will allow Norfolk County to remove the load limit on the bridge. The speed limit reduction will remain in effect. The temporary solution is able to remain in place for the next few years while the County moves forward with the bridge project.
During the construction work, traffic on the bridge will continue to be reduced to a single lane controlled by temporary traffic signals or flagmen. The weight limit and speed limit reduction will be in place for the duration of the construction period.
Once the work is completed, the weight restriction will be removed. However, the reduced speed will remain in place.
The county-wide furniture and appliance pickup which was cancelled in Long Point has been rescheduled to Monday, June 25.
Norfolk County Public Works Division says it appreciates the public’s cooperation.
