Bayfest has come and gone and even though rain postponed the Sunday night fireworks until Monday, festival-goers had positive things to say about the weekend.
“Despite the minor hiccup on Sunday, Bayfest 2019 was as great as we had planned it to be,” said Chair of the Bayfest Committee, Crystal Saunders.
“Saturday’s events were well attended and we have only heard good things from visitors… it really is such a great weekend to enjoy with friends and family and we are seeing that great community spirit more and more each year.”
With heavy rainfall forecast, the committee made the tough decision to postpone the Sunday night fireworks until the holiday Monday.
“Weather is one thing we cannot guarantee, especially with fireworks. The decision to postpone did not come easy,” said Crystal who adds that she was pleasantly surprised to see so many people out on the Monday evening.
“We learnt a few lessons and will definitely have a good back-up plan for these types of things in the future.”
Always impressed with the community itself, Crystal told the Good News that the weekend would not be possible if it weren’t for the continued support of the businesses, service groups and individuals who always step up to help ensure the success of the weekend each year.
“From everyone who donates a prize to those who sponsor or run their own event, this weekend is able to happen because of each and every effort,” the chair noted.
“Even our community members who invite their friends and family down for the weekend and participate and enjoy all there is to do and see… it’s the support of so many that make this festival happen year after year and we thank you!” said Crystal.
With a jam-packed year of fundraising planned leading up to Bayfest 2020, Crystal reminds those looking to get involved to reach out.
“We are always looking for new people, new ideas and helping hands to join us in pulling this festival together… our monthly meetings resume soon and will be posted on our facebook page “Port Rowan Ontario Bayfest”.
